Additional Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Legislation from 2023
Since January 1, 2024, new rules apply to the use of single-use plastic, for example in catering, events, offices, schools, and sports clubs.
Extra charges for the use of single-use plastic cups and containers for drinks and meals to go
Since July 1, 2023, customers at take-away locations, delivery locations, and supermarkets pay for single-use cups and containers containing plastic. For drinks and meals prepared on-site, customers can also choose to use a reusable alternative. For example, they can bring their own cup or container to one location and use returnable cups or containers offered by the location at another.
Mandatory reusable tableware for on-site dining
From January 1, 2024, customers drinking or eating in hotels, cafes, or restaurants will not receive single-use cups or containers with plastic. Reusable tableware is the standard. For example, from January 1, 2024, offices, company canteens, schools, sports clubs, associations, closed events, and amusement parks will also switch to reusable cups and containers.
The use of single-use plastic cups and meal packaging is prohibited for on-site consumption, unless a collection system that enables high-quality recycling can be provided. High-quality recycling is currently only possible for PET products, so packaging made of other materials may not be offered for on-site consumption from 2024, even for an additional charge.
On-site consumption from January 1, 2024
Single-use plastic packaging is no longer allowed for on-site consumption, for example in a catering establishment, at a festival, or in an office.
